Jason Statham covers the “Esquire” June/July 2015 US edition now available on newsstands. Aside from an amusing new photoshoot done at an amusement park in Los Angeles in March, our favorite Brit takes us back to when he used to be a diver and “fly pitcher.” His words are honest and his humbleness is his most attractive feature. He is a man’s man who doesn’t take himself too seriously and knows how to have a good laugh. But it’s his hard work, discipline, and commitment that brought him to where he is today: a true action hero like no other and a role model to millions of people.

“I really enjoyed working with Guy Ritchie. One, it gave me a career, and two, they’re probably a couple of the best films I’ve ever done. I thought The Bank Job was a really quality movie. Even working with Luc Besson and doing The Transporter, one and two—pretty good. The Crank movie—I thought that was decent.” Here he takes a little breath, then lets himself off the hook. “And the rest is shite.”

A big laugh follows before he retreats. “No, no: I take that back. I mean, you do a lot of films. You’re always aiming for something and trying to push yourself to do something good. A movie, it’s like a very complicated timepiece. There’s a lot of wheels in a watch. And some of those wheels, if they don’t turn right, then, you know, the watch ain’t gonna tell the time.”

Jason Statham covers the magazine “Men’s Health” for the fourth time and he has never looked better than he does now. The breathtaking photographs were taken by his photographer friend Daniel Smith last year in Thailand during one of Jason Statham’s workouts in between of filming “Mechanic: Resurrection.” In this brand new interview, our favorite Brit talks about how to work out smart, his motivation to stay fit, the gym in his garage, how he focuses more on his health now and his plans to do a “fully-fledged” fight film with Tony Jaa.

Union Jacked

As one of the UK’s most successful cinematic exports, Jason Statham smashes big-budget action films with old-school training. These are his secrets. Listen up.

Words by Jamie Millar – Photography by Daniel Smith

When he first hit our screens, incredibly some eighteen years ago now, it was with the least starry name conceivable. Sylvester Stallone kickstarted his career as the heroic rough diamond, Italian Stallion Rocky Balboa. Harrison Ford found fame as the cool, blaster-slinging, intergalactic Sundance Kid, Han Solo. By contrast, in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Jason Statham was introduced to us simply as Bacon, hotdogging street hawker with a briefcase full of moody goods.
It would hardly be churlish to say that, of the Brit ensemble behind that gamechanging movie, Statham was not the prime candidate for international stardom. Vinny Jones was its most high-profile turn, the nut-grabbing hardman turned sawn-off psycho. In Nick Moran we were given a new front man, all cheekbones, good hair and fast talk. Meanwhile, director Guy Ritchie was being hyped as the English Tarantino. Yet fast forward a couple of decades and it is Statham who has invited unparalleled success on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Right Face For The Job

December 14, 2014

Discovered by film director Guy Ritchie, Jason Statham, 47, has made a name of himself in action films. His latest film is “Wild Card” (Joker in France) by Simon West who directed The Expendables 2.

From cockney actor to star of action films such as Wild Card, has your career gone the way you wanted?

The change came with the first Transporter by Luc Besson. I’ve always been quite sporty and kept in shape through competitive diving and martial arts. I was delighted when I was asked to do my first action scenes-all those years of training finally paid off! I really enjoyed it and the films went down well, so I thought it was worthwhile nurturing this talent. In England there aren’t that many ‘physical’ actors.
