Filming has officially began with F. Gary Gray (“Straight Outta Compton,” “The Italian Job”) as the new director. Vin Diesel confirmed that it will be set in New York City. Jason Statham will be back to reprise his role as Deckard Shaw and is expected to start filming in mid-April. He will reunite with “The Italian Job” co-star Charlize Theron who will play the bad girl in the eighth installment. While there is no synopsis yet, we imagine she could be the one who breaks Shaw out of prison.

Vin Diesel shared another “Furious 7” set photo of him and Jason Statham via his official Facebook Page.

Statham confirmed back in June that he would be back as Deckard Shaw in “Furious 8” scheduled to be released on April 14, 2017.

In regards to the future of the “Fast and Furious” franchise, three more sequels are in the works and Diesel says in a recent interview with Variety, “We have a director [F. Gary Gray] who is going to bring the darkness out and bring out the character.” He also promises that the eighth installment will be as gritty as his 2003 action-thriller “A Man Apart” which was also directed by Gray.

We surely love the sound of that.

I just got invited to the party in this last one so it’s nice to know I’m gonna be doing another… They’ve always got something good up their sleeve, and I don’t want to be the one who spoils the plot lines but there is some great stuff I already know about.”
